Okay, here's a blog post...

There have been complaints from my only two readers that I have not posted in a while. So, here I am: posting.

The summer is coming to a close. I've started to look around for cheap, 3T sweaters. Rosie has been wearing her long-sleeve airplane shirt and is now discouraged from going in the sprinklers. Fall is coming. Dreaded winter looms in the distance. Ice, snow! Mama freezing her feet off while Rosie runs amok. I am already making plans. Apparently, Brookline, being the world's greatest town, has a town-owned indoor playspace. I don' t know if I should link to information about it. I don't want it to become too popular. Okay, I'll link to the info. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting November 14th at the Soule Recreation Center.

I ain't telling you how to get there, though!

I suppose that Rosie will be more interested in mucking about in the snow this year. I'll just have to get more warm socks and a proper thermal cup for my coffee.

I hate going outside in the cold. I am married to my husband because of this. In NYC in 2003, January 28th was bitterly cold. Avoiding a trip outside, I spent hours at my computer that night looking up things Google. I decided to find out whatever happened to that cute guy from High School. Reader, I married that cute guy.

Rosie will probably be really into winter sports and I'll have to go skiing and crap like that. I hate skiing. Maybe her Dad can take her skiing. Maybe she'll have friends that are really into skiing and their parents will take her. I'm going to work on forging those relationships now.

Next post: the House Playground

What a Great Country!!!!!

I just ran up the street to check out the Brookline Flag Day Parade. My daughter is napping, but wearing her American flag dress, so she's keeping in the spirit of things. She can see her first parade another time.

Now, I don't know for sure, but I think this may be this only country that does parades like this. I mean, it's just anyone from the town who wants to dresses up and marches down the street. That's so fabulous! And then the marching bands. I love marching bands. Yay marching bands!

I got there in time to see my friends in the DAR, looking crazy hot in their colonial outfits. Sadly, I mean "crazy hot" literally, not euphemistically. I can't say that I'm not unhappy that I didn't have my papers in order in time for the parade. That's right: I qualify for the DAR. Don't be intimidated; my ancestors did all the heavy lifting, after all.

Inexplicably, there was a family of bicyclists from Cambridge. Did they follow the William Dawes route getting here, I hope?

My heart is swelled with patriotic pride.

The Bubbellah Playground

NOTES:Known to most as the Devotion School playground, my daughter calls this the bubbellah playground because it's where she first heard the word. After our initial visit, she kept saying "Mama please: ub-lah" It took me a while to realize that she wanted me to call her bubbellah, like the mothers at the park had been calling their kids. Note the park's location: abutting Zaftig's and mere blocks from Brookline's kosher shopping district. It was her first Yiddish word. Since then, she has also learned "schmootz," since she finds it on herself so often.

The park has three levels of playground, which keeps her well occupied. The level closest to the street has some nice benches, a tall metal slide that makes cool thunder noises when you sit on top and kick it with your heels, and a fire truck climbing thing. Also, a sandbox, swings, and an un-themed climbing structure. The other two levels each have entwined climbing, bridge, slide stuff.

WARNINGS: At the bottom of the hill, at the edge of the basketball court, there is usually a giant puddle. All toddlers seem to notice this at some point, all of a sudden, and they will run toward it at great speed. Be prepared. However, it is a really good stomping puddle, if they are wearing boots.

Also, like at any school playground there are often a lot of Big Kids, especially around lunch time. Things can get pretty Darwinian.

COFFEE OPPORTUNITIES: So many! There's a Starbucks and a Dunkin Donuts on your way whether you're coming from Beacon or Comm Ave. In addition, there's Pete's, Finagle a Bagel, the crepe place, JP Licks and Zaftig's on the way from Beacon, among others. Coming from Comm Ave you'll hit Kupel's, Anna's Taqueria (cheap and good) and others, I'm sure.

Welcome to my Blog!

I grew up in Brookline, from age 8 on up. After high school, I went
to Emerson, a few miles away. Then I moved to NYC. Nine years in that
fabulous city, and I never thought I would leave. Then I reconnected
with the cutest boy in high school. All of a sudden, I'm living off
St. Paul street with a husband and a toddler. This blog will detail
some of the adventures that have come to pass, as well as ongoing
events. I also intend to discuss the playgrounds and parks of
Brookline. It's where I spend a lot of my time these days.

Enjoy.
