This blog has degenerated into some pretty narrow celebration of brother and mother, not to mention the cute guy from The Twilight Zone. What happened to all the social commentary? Brookline turns minds into organic baby food. Pretty soon you're scolding friends for not wearing seat belts and jeopardizing their hearing with loud music. Does everyone in Brookline get AARP membership? So Al looks like an East Coast Chris Isaacs, and your Mom radiates beatific intelligence. Winter is gonna get all of you guys and you'll be waitin' for the Green Line with Mike Dukakis and a pack of lunatic Russian mathematicians. I wish they'd never closed The Someday.
It's just like a loitering, weaselly, I-want-to-be-able-to-drink-coffee-in-a-place-where-no-one-threatens-my-opinions-or-offends-my-pierced-bi-curious-lifestyle Davis Square hippie-ster to post these anonymous comments. What are you scared? That's right, people in Brookline are reproducing. Do you think we can't cross the BU bridge? In time, we'll own Davis Square! You'll have to clean up your filthy, commune cafes. We'd better not find any traces of peanut on those Red Zinger stained couches.
Live in fear!!!!
Some morning I'll wake up to find a Brookline DPW truck on Somerville Avenue, far from the Muddy River, and the Brookline peasants will be extending the municipal eruv around Davis Square. No violation of church and state there, but you better start eating low-fat yogurt and kicking some bucks towards PBS. Brookline is so ...Brookline. Its like Newton without garages. And what's with the Thai video store near Coolidge Corner. Somebody's son spend a year in Paris at La Cinematique? And Cambridge isn't any better. I saw a picture of our own Mayah Joe Curatone with some mayor from an Italian village and Ken Reeve, the schizoid sybolic, gender-neutral weak-mayor of Cambridge. What's this? Do we have to share our hard-working government jobs with people who work as Bicycle advocates, walking advocates, homeless advocates, and peace commissioners. We got peace commissioners in Somahville. I went to high school with most of them and they drive around in black and white cruisers that say Somerville Police on the side. For the love of God I cannot figure out which is worst, or wurst: Brookine or Cambridgee, the kids in their non-competitive sports playgrounds or the adults in the voting booths threatening to turn this wonderful city into a parody of Helsinki. Do you have any idea how long nights are in Helsinki? Just stick to the moms and daughters worryin' about trout getting their stupid heads stuck inside a plastic six-pack holder. I don't drink coffee all the time.
Its getting peaceful in Norfolk County, you know that strange political entity of which Brookline is its Danzig Corridor. The leaves are fluttering over the Muddy River, swirling around the babushkas walking arm in arm, oblivious to the bicyclists and joggers. On the Green Line there are informed arguments about changes in Early Decision and Early Admissions which rival the old debate about Mantle versus Mays versus Snider. Only two more weeks for Moms to organize for a Safe Halloween. NPR fundraising is in full swing and Deval Patrick will probably be elected governor. He's from Milton and Milton is in Norfolk County. Time to make a low-fat hot chocolate and tune up the resume.
